"In that case be ready to face your fate: You are going off your plane..."

In his exhibition titled "Flatland", Aydın Büyüktaş displays from a bird's eye view spaces that usually do not attract our attention, but that make up our visual memory, transforms these spaces and adds different dimensions to them.In his "Flatland" series inspired by a book by Edwin Abbott titled “Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions”, Aydın Büyüktaş fictionalizes works aiming to aesthetically placing dimensional perceptions in photography. The exhibition titled "Flatland", which emphasizes that reality cannot be limited to just our perceptions, invites the viewers to think about different dimensions and different points of view.Focusing on displaying the existing differently with manipulating perceptions while avoiding manipulation in the photographs, concerned about querying the daily spaces we live in, Büyüktaş, based on this idea, before the shooting stage plans in every detail meticulously for months the points for shooting, the slopes, angles and junction points with virtual cameras. So much so that, Büyüktaş expresses that with the photographs taken in result of this work an analogue collage may be made even in a dark room.

Specifying that he has chosen Istanbul because it is the city where he lives, Aydın Büyüktaş utilizes spaces that make up the visual memory of the city, such as Sultanahmet Square, Galata Bridge and New Mosque. The artist, who raises a new proposition by destroying the perception of the viewers with his idiosyncratic technique, with his exhibition titled "Flatland", aims to leave the viewers tete-a-tete with an ironic, multidimensional and romantic point of view, apart from an astonishing visuality.

The exhibition titled "Flatland" by Aydın Büyüktaş may be visited at Bozlu Art Project Nişantaşı March 22 and April 26 2016.
