The Bozlu Art Project Mongeri Building is preparing to host the exhibition titled “Laterna Magica: The Dr. Şükrü Bozluolçay Collection” from January 12 to April 22, 2022. Curated by art historian Dr. Özlem İnay Erten, the exhibit involves a comprehensive selection of works from the 19th century to present from the Dr. Şükrü Bozluolçay Collection compiled over forty years. Seeking to provide a chronological view of the progression of Turkish art through history, the exhibit brings together nearly 100 works by over 70 artists.

The Dr. Şükrü Bozluolçay Collection spans from the works of the “Military Painters Generation” who produced the first examples of canvas painting, to the “1914 Generation of Artists” who were important figures in the transition from the Second Constitutional Era to the founding of the Republic, to the first artists’ organizations such as the “Independents” (Müstakiller) and “d Group” (d Grubu), and traces the emergence of the “Paris School” of the ‘50s and ‘60s,” Generation of 1968”, all the way to the works of contemporary artists. Lending itself to chronological arrangement, the Dr. Şükrü Bozluolçay Collection provides pathways to envision the values of the future as well as reflecting the cultural, artistic, and social changes, new forms of expression and intellectual developments that took place in the historical process.

“Laterna Magica: The Dr. Şükrü Bozluolçay Collection” stands out with its interdisciplinary approach boasting a diverse range from painting to sculpture, photography, and video art in addition to offering an art historical perspective. The book titled Laterna Magica: The Dr. Şükrü Bozluolçay Collection by Dr. Özlem İnay Erten published by Bozlu Art Publications in tandem with the exhibit has been prepared in order to provide a broad chronological and thematic overview on our art history from its early days up to the present based on the artworks in the collection.

In the exhibition bringing together classical, modern and contemporary representatives of Turkish art from the 19th century to the present, art lovers will not only be able to view iconic artworks that have left a mark in our art history, but also examples from Dr. Şükrü Bozluolçay’s “Artists Ateliers Collection”. “Laterna Magica: The Dr. Şükrü Bozluolçay Collection” exhibit will be on view at the Bozlu Art Project Mongeri Building from January 12, 2022 to April 22, 2022.
