Bozlu Art Project is presenting Can Göknil’s solo exhibition titled “Cosmic Waltz” from December 19, 2025, to February 14, 2026. Göknil has shaped each of her exhibitions around myths and narratives since the 1970s and she embarks on a journey through the Solar System, astronomy, and galaxies in her fifth solo show at Bozlu Art Project.
Göknil describes the process of creating her works, woven together with Ancient Greek and Roman mythology, Ottoman astrology, and her own stories, as such:
“In the celestial sphere, I first intended to examine the Solar System, but instead I encountered the myths of the Milky Way. I enjoyed the meeting of mythology, the lifeblood of my art, with astronomy—the union of science and tales. With celestial bodies named after ancient Greek and Roman gods and goddesses, our Milky Way transformed into a fairy tale in my mind. Through my imagination, enriched with various galaxies (gravitational spherical objects), dwarf planets, natural satellites (like our Pumpkin), small galaxy clusters, cigar galaxies, and comets, I formed my exhibition with pictorial narratives of the heavens. I recently learned that zodiac signs are influenced by the planets, with Cancer being ruled by the Moon and Leo by the Sun.
If you ask me, the universe is a ballroom.
Our brightest star, the Sun, spins around its own axis, while planets and constellations waltz around it. As for our world, it dances with its closest friend, the Moon…”
“Cosmic Waltz” features Göknil’s new works as well as short texts written by the artist about the planets in the Solar System, Andromeda—the galaxy closest to us—and other celestial bodies. The exhibition reflects the artist’s aesthetic perspective, encompassing both visuality and textuality. The show also features the original drawings from the book The Painter’s Tale, published by Bozlu Art Publications. Göknil, who has been creating illustrated children’s books since the early days of her artistic career, has works translated into different languages that will be accessible to both adults and children throughout the exhibition. Parents can borrow publications from the Can Göknil library prepared for the show and read these books with their children in the exhibition area.
